DEREK METZGER
Patsy
Derek reckons playing ‘Patsy’ in Monty Python’s Spamalot is the perfect way to celebrate 30 years in the business by telling one of the most famous stories of all time…King Arthur, his Knights of the Round Table and the search for the Holy Grail.  Of course the original didn’t have cans of “Spam”, Knights who say “Ni”, or an attack by Gaelic taunters ready to “fart in your general direction” in the story line.  But what would be ‘Musical Comedy’ about that!  All roles leading up to this moment and this show are considered now by Derek to be only preparation…, insignificant and not worth mentioning. Oh alright, but only because you asked nicely. Musical theatre credits include ‘Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’,  ‘Hans Christian Andersen’, ‘Sugar’, ‘Side By Side By Sondheim’, ‘Matador’, ‘Closer Than Ever’, Buskers And Angels’, ‘Certified Male’,  ‘42nd Street’, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Titanic’… look, this is pointless you know.  These roles are meaningless since finding ‘Patsy’ and the ability to gallop, canter and trot using only coconuts! But this does need to be around 300 words long, so... Other roles played in preparation for Python include ‘Nanki Poo’ in ‘Mikado’, ‘Anatoly’ in ‘Chess’, ‘Major General Stanley’ in ‘Pirates of Penzance’, ‘George’ in ‘She Loves Me’, ‘J Pierrepont Finch’ in ‘How To Succeed In Business…’, ‘Bill Snibson’ in ‘Me And My Girl’, ‘Scarecrow’ in ‘The Wizard Of Oz’, ‘Young Ben’ in ‘Follies’ and  ‘Charlemagne’ in ‘Pippin’   We could also list the TV credits, the concert work…..he danced and sang for the Queen Mum once, you know….the Awards….they come in handy keeping the doors open on a windy day.  But what would be the point.  This show is the ‘One’…. this role…. the only performance that truly matters now.  Derek honestly believes that after ‘Spamalot’, nothing will ever be the same again….it’ll all be way too serious!
